World Superbike Season Starts with a Bang for LeoVince
LeoVince Riders Haslam and Laconi start grab some valuable early championship points at the season opener
March 1st, 2009 - Phillip Island, Australia The season was already exciting before it started. The addition of new teams, new manufacturers and new riders had excitement running high long before the green flag dropped.
Qualifying went very well for LeoVince riders. Stiggy Racing team's Leon Haslam qualified on the second row and his teammate Robby Rolfo on the 5th row. Both of their CBR1000RRs' benefited from extensive LeoVince R&D effort. Regis Laconi returned to World Superbike on a team DFX Corse Ducati 1098. Laconi silenced doubters with impressive qualifying times that put his LeoVince powered Ducati on the second row as well.
In the first race Haslam battled for the lead but finished 6th followed by Laconi in 7th. The second race saw Haslam take the podium in 3rd followed closely by Laconi in 4th. A real triumph as this puts Haslam and the new privateer Stiggy racing team on the podium for the first time.
This puts Haslam in third for the championship and Laconi in 7th...with a lot of exciting races to go.
The hits kept coming for Stiggy racing as the new privateer team beat the factory teams again in World Supersport with Anthony West taking 3rd place on a LeoVince equipped CBR600RR
